The main challenge in regard to CO₂ capture is the cost. New and improved technological solutions are continuously being developed with the goal of reducing the capital and operating costs. The energy used in the capture process is an important contributor to the operating cost. For power consuming industries this can be a challenge since no excess energy is available. The solution is to build an additional energy plant or to expand existing plants.
