Pneumatic conveying overview

The applications of pneumatic conveying can be seen in many industrial sectors like chemical, pharmaceutical, mining, agricultural, mineral and food processing industry.

Pneumatic conveying poses a series of advantages over the other methods of material conveying such as flexibility of installation, reduced product contamination, ability to pick up the conveying bulk material from multiple sources and/or distribute them to many different destinations, easiness in control and automation are some of them.

But, still there are many challenges in system design and in achieving a reliable and efficient operation. Some of the problems encountered in these systems are:

  • Pipeline blockage
  • Erroneous operation (not giving designed throughput)
  • High pipe vibrations
  • High erosion wear of pipeline/pipe components
  • Product degradation
  • Dust generation
  • Non-optimal operation
  • Inability of empting bulk tanks
  • Non-even product fluidisation

POSTEC provides a comprehensive test and troubleshooting program to tackle most of the above mentioned problems. We have developed a scaling up technique, which is now available as a computer based design calculation and simulation package. Our approach can be used to avoid erroneous operation of conveying line and to optimise the system operation in terms of conveying capacity, energy consumption, product degradation and pipe erosion. POSTEC also offers services to improve the bulk tank designs and their performances.
