Segregation research activities

Extensive studies have been carried out to address issues of segregation occurring during solids handling. The work focuses on investigating mechanisms of segregation of particulate solids during flow relevant to processes of particulate solids handling. Both theoretical and experimental methods have been applied.

  • Mechanism analyses of phenomena for relevant processes of particulate solids handling, namely particulate solids storage and transportation
  • Development of anti-segregation systems
  • Segregation testing, several testers have been built to investigate heap segregation both in two and three dimensions
  • A fluidization bed is built in a model-scale to address issues of both segregation and mixing, in addition to characterising fluidization properties of powders.
  • De-dusting (ADU)
  • Several case studies are carried out every year in order to solve acute segregation problems in industry
